Our Les Gets Resort Guide

23rd August 2017 | French Alps

Only just over an hour from Geneva airport, you will find Les Gets, one of twelve resorts that make up the huge ski area of the Portes du Soleil. Offering 650 km of pistes this makes it one of the largest ski areas in the world, with many and varied terrain to suit all levels.

Once a farming village it has grown to become one of the top all year round resorts in the French Alps but without abandoning its origins, and remains picturesque and relaxed. It appears unimpressed by the glitz of high end shopping or the need for a hectic nightlife, that some of the high altitude purpose built resorts in the Alps promote. Instead it’s charming, laid back and full of its own unique character and ambience. Nightlife in Les Gets is fun but civilized, this is a relaxed village with a handful of bars and one nightclub and although family-orientated, there are still plenty of happening places to go after dark, creating a friendly buzz about the place in the evenings.

The ski area is fantastic with a wide variety of slopes to suit all skill levels, with the Grand Cry for the little ones, and Mont Chery for the more accomplished skiers. The largely forested slopes provide skiing on both sides of the valley. The resort’s ‘own’ mountain Mont Chéry, served by a chair or gondola, offers terrain for all ability levels. It typifies one of the resort’s major assets – the fact that you can take a mixed ability group to the top of the gondola or a chair lift and find runs for each ability level – advanced, intermediate and easy, which depart from the same point and meet again at the base.

Les Gets in the summer offers the opportunity to indulge in a wide variety of activities. There is an 18 holes golf course, a leisure area with swimming lake, an adventure park and a ten-pin bowling venue to name a few.

An extensive lift system takes you without effort to the top of the mountains and walkers will be rewarded with magnificent views of Mont-Blanc from either side of mountain tops above the village of Les Gets.

As the Mecca for mountain biking, Les Gets regularly holds the discipline’s World Cup. Les Gets is rich in trails and downhill courses, which attract riders from all over Europe
