What’s on this summer in Morzine

6th June 2018 | Morzine

Boy, oh boy, is Morzine the place to be this summer! If there’s one thing amongst many that Morzine does well, it’s families and events, and they have thrown it out of the park once again with this summer’s agenda. I think Morzine is an unsung hero in terms of ski and summer resorts. People think of Morzine not having the glam and glitter of Courchevel (rightly so), but that’s what makes us love it even more. It feels more real, it feels more relaxed, and there’s some brilliant things to see. Check out the biggest events that we will not be missing this summer…plus, these events start in June, unlike most of the resorts that stay sleepy until July.

17 June – Morzine Haut Chablais Cyclosportive. Ease yourself into this summer’s cycling and bike races with the option of 100km or 155km over the famous local cols. If you’re new to Morzine and love road cycling it’s a fabulous way to meet some like-minded individuals, and discover some of the beautiful views.

22-24 June – Savoie Cup Gathering Porsches. The Savoie cup is a rally for Porsches, but set over the 3 days means that people have the chance to go and view the gathering of 400 of these prestigious cars whilst they all gather in support of the race.

29 June – 1 July – Pass’portes du Soleil. We haven’t seen an event like this before, and it just perfectly encapsulates Morzine’s fresh way of thinking. Initially, this is a major MTB event which spans the whole of the Portes du Soleil, including the French and Swiss resorts connected. With 80km of routes and lots of pit-stops, this is a fab day out for any MTB enthusiasts. But here’s the difference, there is also a kid’s event from 9-14yo, which is supervised by instructors and is just €22 entrance fee. And, they’ve introduced a Pass’Portes Pedestre. This is a walking pass for those accompanying the MTB entrants. This is a walking path which is marked out. It will run parallel to the main event, and depending which route you choose you can visit local farms for tasting, see wildlife and learn about the local area from guides. Mind. Blown.

7 & 8 July – Spartan Race European Championship. Think the French equivalent of Tough Mudder; 6km, 20 obstacles, water, mud.

8 July & 19 August – 1 day 1 col. If you’re anything like us, you love road cycling, but the cars make you slightly uneasy. Especially on the descent. Well then the Joux Plane is one for you. On the first day, the col de Ramaz will close to all vehicles, and the same will happen on the col de Joux Plane on the latter day. To top it off, there’ll be refreshments waiting for you at the top so you can enjoy your climb without the worry of traffic.

16-20 July & 11-17 August – Morzine, the kids’ kingdom. It wouldn’t be Morzine if they didn’t have the kids covered! Free entry, free shows, free workshops. Perfect for visiting children.

25-28 July – Championnats de France VTT Descente. The French championship of Mountain Biking, keep an eye on the website for more information as it’s released.

30 July – 3 August – Morzine Pampers You. With all of the activities that happen in Morzine, it’s definitely needed to have a pamper week. Expect sunshine, wellbeing and massage amongst others.

5 August – Morzine-Avoriaz Bike Climb. This ‘Grimpée Cycliste’ bike climb from Morzine to Avoriaz is described as an ‘institution’. Originating in 1975 when the Tour de France first passed through Morzine, now is your opportunity to test yourself against the record time of 33 minutes. Bernaud Hinault’s time is still unbeaten, 27 years later!

8 & 9 August – Morzine Beach. For one weekend only, pretend you’re at the seaside in the middle of the mountains. Dip your toes in the sand, jump onto the inflatable games, and send the kids to the workshops. Listen to live music and spend the weekend feeling like you’re on holiday.

11 August – Hauts Forts Trail Race. The ultimate trail running race in the Portes du Soleil. Choose from 23km, 40km, or 51km. Starting in Morzine and finishing in Avoriaz at 1800m. Spectacular views, if you can look at anything other than your feet.

7 & 8 September – 70th Mont Blanc Rally. Part of the French Automobile Championships, Morzine has hosted stages in this rally for the last 20 years. For more information, visit the dedicated website.
